Louise Fletcher

My background is in the field of environmental microbiology and in the many years I have been at the University of Leeds I have worked in the areas of wastewater treatment, solid waste management and aerobiology (indoor and outdoor environments). Recently I have been involved in a number of research projects including faecal sludge management in Bangladesh and evaluating the performance of biofilters at waste management facilities in the UK. For me, being involved in research, regardless of the particular subject area means I can satisfy my need to ask questions and find answers to those questions. I have always had this curiosity but at various key points in my education I have been able to satisfy this curiosity and this is particularly true of the research projects I undertook during my undergraduate degree, my MSc and of course my PhD. As part of this MSc programme you will also have the opportunity to undertake a piece of cutting edge research in your individual research project.

Being the new Programme Leader for the MSc in Environmental Engineering and Project Management will allow me to share that breadth of experience that I have in different areas of environmental engineering with you and help you to develop the same enthusiasm that I have.

The Environmental Engineering and Project management MSc programme attracts students from different parts of the world and from a variety of backgrounds. You will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and develop your team working skills through the numerous group activities that we offer. You will benefit from access to some outstanding lecturers who, like me, are passionate about their subjects and also some excellent facilities including a range of laboratories.

The MSc programme starts by introducing you to environment and health management and goes on to cover the management of solids wastes, water resources, wastewater and organic waste together with project and asset management. You will undertake a range of activities including lectures, practical laboratory sessions and a full day field course out in the beautiful countryside of North Yorkshire.
