Many of our funded project studentships are in collaboration with our industrial partners.
We have all the facilities you’ll need to support your research. We invest millions of pounds each year to ensure we maintain a first-class learning and research environment. Facilities include: a £4.5m electron-beam lithography system, a class 100 semiconductor cleanroom and a molecular beam epitaxy facility to fabricate advanced compound semiconductor optoelectronic devices.

You’ll join a friendly, supportive and diverse community of over 500 engineering and computing postgraduate researchers who come from all around the world. As well as a lead supervisor who’ll provide guidance and support on your project, you’ll also be associated with one of our research institutes, a small community with whom you’ll interact on a daily basis.
During your time with us, you’ll have the support of our dedicated employability team as well as the University’s Careers Centre. Each offers a wide range of services designed to assist you in developing your career. The range of careers open to you once you’ve finished your PhD is broad. Our graduates have secured positions with organisations including, among others: BT, General Electric, JPMorgan Chase & Co, Procter & Gamble, ST-Ericsson.
