Student society meeting in the Hidden Cafe

Leeds has one of the largest student unions in the country. Leeds University Union (LUU) exists to represent, support and entertain you throughout your student years. Leeds University Union has over 250 activities to choose from – you can get involved in anything from football to chess, wine tasting to skydiving, dance to ‘a cappella’. You can even try your hand at Quidditch! Also, through the Global Community you can connect with students from over 140 different countries and take part in a range of international activities.

Mechanical Engineering Society (MechEngSoc)

If you have a passion for Mechanical Engineering you can join the MechEngSoc during your time at Leeds. The Society is open to all current undergraduate and postgraduate students in the School of Mechanical Engineering.
Here’s an overview of what the society involves and the typical activities that take place throughout the year.

What is MechEngSoc?

We’re the departmental society of Mechanical Engineering, aimed at integrating students from all years and areas of Mechanical Engineering. We also welcome anyone who is interested in Mechanical Engineering to join our Society. We organise a variety of activities and events to encourage people to share their interests in Mechanical Engineering. It’s a great opportunity for you to meet people from different backgrounds. We aim to enhance your time at the University by supporting and creating more opportunities for you to relax and socialise outside of your studies.

What activities and events take place?

We have a variety of social events with something to suit everyone. We organise activities such as paintballing, pizza nights, Christmas dinner, the annual Spring Ball and many more.

What are the future plans for MechEngSoc?

We’re planning on increasing our range of activities and aim to:
•    develop academic and career building events
•    enhance the existing and introduce new socials activities
•    collaborate with the other engineering societies.
