Welcome to the Sixth International Conference on Durability of Concrete Structures (ICDCS 2018) which will be held in Leeds, UK, on Wednesday 18 – Friday 20 July 2018.
Concrete is currently the most popular construction material in the world. This has been achieved through progress in research and developmental activities over many decades by numerous researchers. Although the first use of concrete can be traced back to BC 7000 in a concrete floor at Yiftah El, Southern Galilee, Israel, the modern concrete emerged in the nineteenth century when Portland cement was invented. With the introduction of reinforced and prestressed concretes, there was steady progress towards the emergence of concrete as the most popular construction material. However, the performance of concrete was not satisfactory at all times. Many structures deteriorated prematurely due to their continuous interactions with the service environment, where physical and chemical processes in concrete caused its damage. Therefore, an understanding of the deterioration mechanisms and methods of their assessment has become extremely important in order to develop durable concrete structures.
The International Conference on the Durability of Concrete Structures (ICDCS) series brings together leading experts in the field of concrete durability from around the world. The aim is to discuss recent progress and latest developments in materials technology, assessment of performance both in laboratories and on site, service life concepts and reuse and recycling of construction materials and products to enable concrete constructions to be durable and sustainable.
This conference at University of Leeds is the sixth in the ICDCS series. The first International Conference on the Durability of Concrete Structures (ICDCS2008) was held at Zhejiang University Hangzhou, China in 2008, the second (ICDCS2010) at Hokkaido University Sapporo, Japan in 2010, the third (ICDCS2012) at Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK in 2012, the fourth (ICDCS2014) at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA in 2014, and the fifth in the series (ICDCS2016) at Shenzhen University, Shenzhen, China in 2016.
Please take this opportunity to explore the ICDCS 2018 website, if you wish to be added to the conference mailing list to receive regular updates and key date reminders please email the Secretariat.
