Applied photon research

Applications of light from X-rays to mid-infrared wavelengths are the main focus of research of the Applied Photon Science Group.  

Development and use of novel light sources including advanced lasers for spectroscopy, bio and chemical sensors and imaging, materials processing and integrated optical devices engineering are important for technological breakthroughs with the objective of ‘Photonics for Life’.

Researchers in the group have expertise in Ultrafast laser plasma materials processing, X-ray/UV/vis photon techniques, LIBS, Multiscale and Electromagnetic modelling, Vision science, Photovoltaic materials, Raman spectroscopy, fluorescence imaging and spectroscopy, nanophotonics, optical waveguide engineering and photonic integration, fibre optics, biophotonic materials, laser glass engineering, nonlinear optics and non-invasive and in vitro sensors.
