Our five research themes focus on key areas where research in the School of Civil Engineering impacts on global and national challenges and develops the technology and tools needed to enable the next generation of sustainable development.
Our themes are interlinked and provide a mechanism bring researchers together, to support new ideas and innovation, and to develop strong partnerships across the university and beyond.
Cross-cutting themes underpin and support our research. Principles of sustainability, and the interactions between civil engineering and the natural environment run through all five themes.
We have specific expertise in a number of areas including project management, monitoring and sensing, and numerical modelling, which all enable greater depth of understanding and analysis across our research.
