This research concerns the improvement of product development process by addressing the quality of the interior trim of production vehicles with the aim to investigate and identify new possibilities to improve the vehicle interior trim through Affective engineering methodology. It has been understood that the aesthetic value of the product; the way it looks, the feel of the material, the tactile of haptic responses of controls and good ergonomics are crucial elements in giving a certain amount of pleasure and satisfaction for consumers. Affective engineering approach will be used to quantify users’ subjective feelings, including the use of statistical multivariate analyses and the use of the probabilistic Rasch model. It will investigate the integration of multisensory cues for touch, vision and sound of the texture of trim materials, and explore manufacturing trade-offs with a goal of identifying design styling parameters for vehicles.
