3D realistic and interactive fabric simulation in virtual reality

Project description

Cloth Simulation has been used widely in many industries such as fashion (design, on-line retail, etc.) and entertainment (games, movies, etc. ). However, realistic and fast cloth simulation is still a vastly open problem. For instance, realistic garment simulation in Virtual Reality is very difficult due to the low speed of high-fidelity simulation methods. This project aims to combine the state-of-the-art theoretical research in cloth simulation, computer graphics and machine learning to target this problem. It will look into using cutting-edge machine learning techniques to accelerate various cloth simulation models and finally run the simulation in virtual reality.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved a bachelor degree with a 2:1 (hons), or equivalent, or a good performance in a Masters level course in a relevant subject. We also recognise relevant industrial and academic experience.

How to apply

Formal applications for research degree study should be made online through the university's website. Please state clearly in the research information second that the PhD you wish to be considered for is '3D Realistic and Interactive Fabric Simulation in Virtual Reality' as well as Dr He Wang as your proposed supervisor.

If English is not your first language, you must provide evidence that you meet the University's minimum English Language requirements.

We welcome scholarship applications from all suitably-qualified candidates, but UK black and minority ethnic (BME) researchers are currently under-represented in our Postgraduate Research community, and we would therefore particularly encourage applications from UK BME candidates. All scholarships will be awarded on the basis of merit.
