Dr Owais Mehmood
I am a Research Fellow in Computer Vision and Machine Learning at the Institute for Artificial Intelligence. Broadly speaking, my work involves object recognition, object detection, sensor fusion, and data visualization applied to the EU-funded multi-million euro tunneling project "NETTUN" and ESPRC-funded UK underground analysis project entitled "ATU". I also work in close collaboration with European industries such as NFM, SYSTRA, IDS, and Geo2X.
Earlier, I was a PhD student at Ecole Centrale Lille (French grande école, and a renowned graduate engineering school), and was also associated with the French institute of science and technology for transport, spatial planning, development and networks. My PhD is entitled: "People Detection Methods For Intelligent Multi-Camera Surveillance Systems". Before that, I did my masters in the European program of Color in Informatics and Media Technology. As a part of my masters degree, I studied in 5 cities across 3 countries. My master thesis was completed at the Computer Vision Group of Xerox Research Centre Europe.
