Why did you decide to study at the University of Leeds?

I decided in high school that I wanted to study in England and then when it came down to choosing a university my choice was mainly based upon the reputation of the course I wanted to study. After some recommendations from friends, my sixth form school and research into the university, I knew the University of Leeds was the one for me.

What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University and why?

The best aspect of my course is the amount of practical and hands-on work I get to do. I learn faster and better from practical work and it keeps things interesting. The best aspect of studying in the university for me, aside from being able to graduate from a university with a great reputation, is the cultural diversity and the friendly environment the university tries its very best to produce. This made settling down easier.

Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed so far?

Designing and building a rubber powered buggy which was to cover a 9-metre distance and should also be fast enough to win races against buggies of similar build. I was responsible for designing the buggy’s framework using Solid Works and calculating the theoretical distance that it would cover, as well as the top speed at which it would move.

What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?

Students can find almost anything they want in the city without having to leave it, no matter their ethnicity.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I plan to be a successful charted mechanical engineer with a masters’ degree who preferably works in England.

What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career?

The IT skills I have gained from learning to use software that engineers use in their daily activities are sure to help me in my future career. Also, all the practical work done at the university will surely prepare me for life as an engineer.

What would you say to students coming to do the same course?

Life in university is not always the easiest but the University of Leeds makes sure you have fun while learning. So it’s a wonderful choice you have made if you decide to study here.
